Details

Tiny but mighty, black ash mini baskets are wonderful holders of small treasures, favorite rocks, and so much more. In this class, students will make one mini basket. Students will prepare their base and weaver pieces by cutting and knife scraping black ash splint material and learn how to continuous weave. Students will learn how to finish a basket by tucking in the uprights and will prepare their rim system and lashing pieces which will be fashioned onto the basket body. A log pounding and splint splitting demonstration will be done where students can participate in the intricate process of attaining ash splint material. Students will also learn about the Haudenosaunee traditions and history of black ash basket weaving. A display table of baskets and basket books will be available for students to interact with.

Would you rather take a one-day class where all the materials have been prepped for you? Check out Liandra's black ash mini-basket class with kits in October: https://bookwhen.com/driftlessfolkschool/e/ev-s8o3-20231021090000

Sliding Scale Course Fee Guidelines (not including Materials Fees)

Supporter Level Ticket: $180
If you move through the world with financial ease and the means to fulfill many of your wants as well as your needs – you are able to eat out when you want, abundantly meet your needs through employment or can comfortably not work, have access to family wealth, own property, etc. – consider paying at this level, which will help us ensure the long term sustainability of our programs while keeping our offerings accessible to those with access to fewer resources.

Sustainer Level Ticket: $140
If you are able to meet your needs with relative ease while budgeting your educational and entertainment spending – for instance, you are able to take classes and eat out occasionally as long as you are mindful – consider paying at this level, which will help sustain the work of the Folk School at a modest level.

Supported Level Ticket: $100
If you struggle to fund your basic needs and have limited access to resources in your family and community, or if you would not be able to access this offering without a discounted payment option, consider paying at this level.
