These ingenious round bark boxes are an old craft of Scandinavia and Northern Russia. Made of a coiled and locked, round sleeve of high-quality birch bark and fitted with carefully carved base and lid, they historically held teas, dry goods, snuff, trinkets, and butter. The bark work teaches careful selection, cutting, thinning, and layout, and the base and lid require careful and skillful knifework, all of which will be taught in this class. This will be a long day of dedicated handwork, but your heart will likely be won over by these magical little containers. And you will learn a lot along the way...

Sustainer Level Ticket: $105
If you are able to meet your needs with relative ease while budgeting your educational and entertainment spending – for instance, you are able to take classes and eat out occasionally as long as you are mindful – consider paying at this level, which will help sustain the work of the Folk School at a modest level.
Supported Level Ticket: $80
If you struggle to fund your basic needs and have limited access to resources in your family and community, or if you would not be able to access this offering without a discounted payment option, consider paying at this level. We value your presence and contributions to our community and do not want any economic circumstances to be a barrier to attendance!
If you have a sharp carving knife or other related tools, you are welcome to bring them. Cut-resistant gloves are welcome but not required. Come dressed in comfy clothes for a cool shop, and some boots in case we take a walk to look at some birch trees.
