Early Movers Music and Movement Classes

Early Movers classes are a fun introduction for babies, toddlers and their families into the world of music, movement and dance!
A programme created by Siobhan Buchanan back in 2019, the classes can now be found in many local dance schools. Our Early Movers classes all take place at the Wendy Bates School of Dancing, Unit 6 Wood Street, Burton on Trent, DE14 3AB

Shakers - suitable for babies from 6 weeks to 9 months
Wrigglers - suitable for babies from 9-18 months
Movers - suitable for little ones from 18 months-3 years
Age ranges are flexible to allow for the varying ranges of development that little ones go through - babies and children are placed in the class that most suits their physical and emotional development.

The classes are all designed to enable parents and carers to relive their childhood, and release their inner child as they join in and engage in fun, playful activities with little ones. Each class has a weekly theme with all exercises, props and activities related to immerse little ones in a fantastic learning experience.

All of our classes are taught by Miss Siobhan - a fully qualified dance teacher with over 19 years experience teaching in local primary and junior schools, along with all ages at the dancing school. Our Early Movers classes are designed to support your child's development in their early years, in particular strengthening their gross motor skills, language and communication and social skills. Miss Siobhan is also a qualified Baby, Toddler and Children's Yoga instructor and Developmental Play Practitioner with a wealth of knowledge to support those first few wonderful years.

FAQS

  • What should my child wear? Anything they can move comfortably in! We do ask that no outdoor shoes are worn on the mats so we can keep them clean, and that everyone has socks on. Children are welcome to wear ballet shoes (available to purchase via the dancing school) or clean soft shoes/slippers.
  • Will grown ups need to dance too? Absolutely - but we never expect anyone to be performing on the West End! The more grown ups join in, the more little ones feel confident enough to experience the class to the best of their ability, and there's nothing more special than seeing the connection between families when having fun together. There are always options for movements, so please don't feel you need to be an expert, it's all about sharing the love of movement together.
  • What if my child doesn't join in? Please don't worry - there is no pressure for everyone to join in with every exercise. As children attend regular classes and experience the familiar routine, their confidence will grow and they will begin to engage with the activities. As we always say to parents, every child develops at their own pace, it is more important they feel comfortable and happy in the class so that when they feel ready to can jump up and wiggle and dance.
