The Making Mill

The Making Mill is a flexible, multidisciplinary creative hub in the centre of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, UK, providing affordable specialist spaces, facilities and opportunities for artists, makers, performers, filmmakers, photographers, audio practitioners, educators and local community groups.

We offer room and studio hire for arts programming, workshops, training, events and collaborative projects.

Our venue includes dedicated spaces for arts and crafts, audio recording, photography and video, alongside a multipurpose room for performance, wellness activities, community events, screenings, markets and exhibitions. We also have a meeting room and green room facilities to support the wider programme, with activities including creative workshops, media training, wellness activities, movement, theatre, dance, artist residencies and community events.

We are situated on Valley Road, which is a 7-minute walk from the bus stops at New Road or Market Street/Commercial Street and a 15-minute walk from Hebden Bridge Train Station. There is limited free parking available on evenings and weekends in the road between Star Garage and The Making Mill, with paid street parking and nearby car parks also available close by.

The Making Mill is located in a former Mill and is on the first floor and is currently not wheelchair accessible, with the workshop rooms are accessible by stairs.

Workshop Cancellation & Refund Policy

We understand that circumstances can change, particularly when workshops are booked in advance. This policy aims to be fair to participants and tutors while helping The Making Mill remain sustainable as a small independent creative space.

*For Third Party bookings not purchased through The Making Mill Bookwhen site please see the specific tutor's own cancellation policy, as these may differ.

These terms do not affect any statutory rights you may have under UK consumer law.

Individual Workshop Bookings for The Making Mill courses only

28 days or more before the workshop

You may choose either:

a refund of the workshop price, less any reasonable administration and booking costs already incurred; or
a transfer to another suitable workshop, subject to availability.

14–27 days before the workshop

You may choose either:

a 50% refund of the workshop price, less any reasonable administration and booking costs already incurred; or
a transfer to another suitable workshop, subject to availability.

Less than 14 days before the workshop

We do not normally offer refunds or transfers. However, please contact us as soon as possible. If we are able to re-sell your place, we may be able to offer a refund or alternative arrangement, taking into account any costs or losses we have incurred.

Any transfer will be subject to availability and may be for a different workshop topic.

Full Course Bookings

If you have booked a complete course and are unable to attend a session, please give us at least 24 hours' notice wherever possible.

We may offer one replacement session per course booking, subject to availability, normally during the next available round of the same course.

Because our courses are progressive, we cannot guarantee that a replacement session will provide exactly the same learning experience as the original session. Missed sessions cannot normally be exchanged for a cash refund.

Transferring Your Place

If you cannot attend, you may arrange for another person to take your place, provided you notify us in advance and the replacement participant is suitable for the workshop.

If We Cancel

If The Making Mill or the tutor needs to cancel a workshop and we cannot provide it as booked, we will contact participants as soon as reasonably possible.

You will normally be offered either:

a full refund for the cancelled workshop; or
a transfer to an alternative date, where available.
Why We Have This Policy

Our workshops involve tutor fees, materials, preparation, administration and venue costs, many of which are incurred before the workshop takes place. Late cancellations can also make it difficult to re-sell a place.

This policy allows us to protect the business against reasonable costs and losses caused by cancellations, while taking reasonable steps to reduce those losses where possible.
