🥔🌿 With the arrival of the new season's Irish potatoes and the eagerly anticipated harvest of our own famous PGI-status Comber Earlies, what better way to serve them than in a traditional Irish Sciathóg?
Originally designed to strain freshly boiled potatoes, this beautiful handcrafted basket takes its name from the Irish word for shield (sciath) and has been part of Irish kitchen life for generations. Today, it is just as at home holding warm bread 🥐 or displaying fresh fruit as it is for straining potatoes🍏🍊🍋.
Join us at The Walled Garden, Helen's Bay and spend a relaxing day discovering the traditions of Irish willow basketry with talented local willow artist Heather McDermott. Using sustainable willow grown in our own Salley Garden 🌿, you'll create your own authentic Sciathóg to take home.
Set in our beautiful heritage surroundings, enjoy good company, delicious homemade food, good company and the satisfaction of learning a traditional craft while making something both beautiful and practical.

🌿 Our workshops may take place partly outdoors, depending on the weather and will involve a walk to the Salley garden. Please come prepared with warm layers, sturdy footwear.🥾🧤
