A Grounding in Gilding III: Contemporary mordants and processes

This is an online event.

Joining instructions will be provided after booking.

Details

This third session in the manuscript gilding course covers a wide range of contemporary mordants, now available, and works through techniques for applying the size, laying the gold and which burnishing method to use. We will discuss the pros and cons of each one and the suitability for different applications, so that you know what to use when and where.

Instructions

Although it’s impossible to cover each and every mordant available these days, it will be difficult to work along with the tutor as there will be roughly 6 or 7 different ones being used during the session. It may be wise to try out 2 or 3 of the ones you like the look of most, rather than buying them all and finding that just a few are sufficient. It will be better to watch, ask questions and share experiences along the way, then source the materials you’d like to have a go with later. The materials list below is for notetaking not gilding – a full list of materials and suppliers will be provided within the set of handouts, sent a few days before the live workshop.

You’ll be asked to mute your sound, but there will be opportunities to ask questions and contribute to the processes.
After booking your place PDF handouts will be emailed to you 3 days before the workshop date. The recording cannot be downloaded but will be available to view for 30 days afterwards.

Any links sent to you should not be shared with anyone else, as per the Ts & Cs, thank you.

Materials list:
• Pencil or pen for notetaking
• Notebook
• Handouts provided to refer to or add notes to
