While Art Nouveau designwork is organic and based on the natural world, Art Deco’s is geometric and blocky, built on circles, triangles, fan and off-set shapes. This workshop will briefly describe how these geometric tendencies emerged, putting them in context with the art world at the time. Then demonstrations of several different alphabets will explore how you can create your own, and we will consider how to apply the highly stylised decoration and motifs to borders and greetings card designs. We will also use metallic paints/inks on a dark background – giving the effect of “lit-up” lettering.
You are welcome to work along with the tutor or to watch and have a go later, referring to the recording.
