Pointed Pen Carolingian

This is an online event.

Joining instructions will be provided after booking.

Details

Learn a new approach to the classic Carolingian script – using a pointed nib. This workshop will demonstrate how to achieve a fair representation of a historical model of the hand and then various ways of personalising it – whether to be more Uncialified or Itilicised – either way the pointed pen gives us the opportunity to gain a different kind of flow to this time-honoured script which has had such a huge influence on calligraphy, typefaces and fonts down the centuries. You will be able to achieve your own individual version, using a range of variable characteristics such as different serifs, ligatures, weight and compression.

Instructions

After a brief overview of the development of the Carolingian script, we will consider the possibilities of using the pointed pen for different versions of this significant and useful hand, through demonstrations. You'll need to have printed out the handout/s for use during the session.
You’ll be asked to mute your sound, but there will be opportunities to ask questions and contribute to the processes.
Please type your email address accurately and book your place using the address you wish all the information to be sent to, otherwise you may not receive it, thank you.
After booking your place PDF handouts will be emailed to you 3 days before the workshop date. The recording cannot be downloaded but will be available to view for 30 days afterwards. Any links sent to you should not be shared with anyone else, as per the Ts & Cs, thanks.
