Welcome to South Wales’ premier boutique mermaid swimming academy! We operate out of first-class facilities, primarily hosting our pod at Canolfan Pentre Awel in Llanelli.

Whether your swimmer is stepping into a tail for the very first time, completing progressive skills in our multi-week blocks, or joining in for a parent-and-child experience, our mission is to blend technical aquatic confidence with pure underwater magic.

What to Expect at Tops Tails

Strict Safety Ratios (Max 6 Swimmers): We believe safety and personal coaching come first. Every single session is strictly capped at 6 participants per pod, supervised under our dedicated 1:1 model (Lead Instructor in the water, Deck Wrangler on poolside).

Skill Prerequisites: To ensure the safety and enjoyment of every mermaid, all participants must be aged 6+, able to swim 25 metres unassisted, and tread water comfortably for 1 minute. A quick water competency assessment is conducted at the start of every session.

Professional Tails & Monofins Included: High-grade monofins and tail skins are provided for every booking. We teach swimmers how to safely fit, swim in, and quick-release from their fins.

Progressive Learning: Through our signature Pod Passport, swimmers develop authentic dolphin undulation, core stability, underwater barrel rolls, and surface glides.

Bring Your Kit: Standard fitted swimwear, goggles, and a towel. (All mermaid tails and fins are sanitized and provided poolside).

📍 Venue & ArrivalLocation: Canolfan Pentre Awel, Llanelli.

Arrival Time: Please arrive poolside 10–15 minutes before your session start time. This allows ample time for register check-in, changing, and fitting mermaid tails and monofins.

Late Arrivals: To ensure swimmers do not miss the mandatory safety briefing, late entries into the pool cannot be permitted once the water assessment begins.

🦺 Swim Safety & Pool AssessmentSafety is our top priority. Mermaiding involves swimming with both feet secured in a monofin, which requires water competence and comfort in deeper water.

Age Requirement: Swimmers must be aged 6 years or older to wear a mermaid tail.

Mandatory Water Competency Check: Every session begins with a brief in-water safety check in standard swimwear before tails are issued. Swimmers must comfortably demonstrate: Swimming 25 metres unaided without stopping or touching the pool floor.Treading water for at least 30 seconds.

Note: If an instructor determines a participant is not yet water-safe in a monofin, they will not be permitted to wear the tail for safety reasons.

🎒 What to BringSwimwear: A snug, well-fitting swimsuit, two-piece, or trunks works best underneath the tail fabric.

Goggles or Swim Mask: Highly recommended for underwater vision and games.

Towel & Warm Layers: For poolside comfort before and after the swim.

Camera / Phone: Spectators are welcome to take photos from designated viewing areas!

Due to our strict safety cap of maximum 6 swimmers per pod and upfront commercial lane hire costs at our partner facilities, we operate a firm booking and cancellation policy. By confirming a booking with Tops Tails, you accept the terms outlined below.

​1. Customer Cancellations & Rescheduling ​More than 7 Days’ Notice: Cancellations made 7 full days or more prior to the scheduled session date are eligible for a full refund (minus any third-party payment processing fees) or a free transfer to an alternative available date. ​48 Hours to 7 Days’ Notice: Cancellations made between 48 hours and 7 days prior to the session are non-refundable. However, your booking may be transferred to a future pod, subject strictly to space availability. ​Less than 48 Hours’ Notice / No-Shows: Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice, or failure to attend on the day, are strictly non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled. Because our sessions are capped at 6 swimmers, late cancellations leave empty lane spots that cannot be filled at short notice. ​Emergency Rescheduling: In cases of genuine medical or family emergencies within 48 hours, session transfers are considered on a case-by-case basis at our sole discretion, subject to space in an upcoming pod.

  1. Multi-Week Block Courses ​Multi-week blocks (3-week or 4-week courses) are sold as a continuous term commitment. ​Once a block course begins, missed individual sessions cannot be refunded or carried over to future terms. ​If a swimmer is unable to attend a specific week due to illness, we cannot guarantee a catch-up slot, but will accommodate where lane space permits. ​

  2. Swimmer Competency & Safety Disqualification ​All participants must be aged 6+ and able to swim 25 metres unassisted and tread water comfortably for 1 minute. ​A water competency assessment is conducted at the start of every session. ​If a swimmer cannot safely meet this standard, they will not be permitted to wear a monofin or tail for their own safety. In these circumstances, no refund can be issued, though the instructor will deliver alternative water confidence exercises where feasible. ​

  3. Operator Cancellations (Pool Closures & Unforeseen Events) ​If Tops Tails must cancel a session due to unexpected leisure centre pool closures, water contamination, technical plant failure, or severe weather warnings: ​You will be notified via SMS/WhatsApp and email as early as possible. ​Your booking will be automatically transferred to a rescheduled date of your choice, credited to your account, or fully refunded if no suitable replacement date is available.

​5. Gift Certificates ​Gift vouchers are valid for 3 months from the date of issue. ​Vouchers are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Once a voucher is redeemed against a specific session date, the standard cancellation rules above apply.
