Welcome to OUPC's Polo Lessons booking page. At least a week ahead of time during term, the lesson times will be uploaded for you to view and book. Please book using an Oxford email address. Please also state whether you have a car in Oxford or not in the 'More info' section.
Membership: all lesson attendees must be registered as a member with the club for insurance purposes. Please contact email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for more details on how students and non-student members alike can become registered (this requirement does not apply to taster sessions).
Location: lessons in Michaelmas and Hilary take place at two venues: beginner's lessons will be at Stud Farm, Chesterton, Bicester OX26 1TF, UK , an approximately 25 minute drive from Oxford centre; novice/intermediate and squad lessons will be at Black Bears Polo Club, Lower Bolney Farm, Shiplake, Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 3NN an approximately 1 hr drive from Oxford city centre. During the summer grass season, weather permitting, lessons take place on Ground 4 at Kirtlington Polo Club (OX5 3JQ), 20-30 minutes from Oxford centre. Please remember to check for traffic updates when planning your departure time.
Cost: beginner lessons will be £50 for 1 hour (unless stated otherwise), which is payable by cash or card payable to Hector Worsley or David Ashby at the lesson venue. novice/intermediate/squad lessons will be £80 for 2 hours (unless stated otherwise). Lessons may be block booked in increments of 5 for beginners and will be subject to a 5% discount, and lessons may be block booked in increments of 5 or 10 for novice/intermediate/squad and will be subject to a 5% or 10% discount respectively. If you cancel the lesson less than 24 hours before the lesson, you will still be charged unless someone can be found to take your place, as the horses will have been booked, etc. Please also note that taster sessions must be cancelled within 48 hours of the given session in order to secure refunds. Please don't commit to lessons unless you are sure you can come.
Bookings: on booking the lesson, a confirmation email will be sent to you. If you do not receive this, please contact the Polo Manager (Leanne) directly. Please make sure to go all the way through with the booking as your spot during that lesson might be lost otherwise.
Transport: Transportation to and from each lesson is the responsibility of the participants. You will receive an email the evening before the lesson in which the lesson will be confirmed and you will be notified who else is attending the lesson. This email chain may be used to organize transport. The cost of transport will be in addition to the lesson fee and will depend upon how the attendees choose to organize themselves.
Please ensure that you are signing up for the appropriate level slot. Should you have any questions about what level you are, please do not hesitate to speak to Hector directly.
The minimum number of people required for a lesson to go ahead is 3 for lessons at Stud Farm and 5 for lessons at Black Bears Arena - if there are fewer people then, unfortunately, that lesson will have to be cancelled.
For instructional chukkas, the minimum number of people required is 8. This is to ensure there can be a minimum of 3 teams of 3 including one of the coaches.
Equipment: Hard-heeled boots with a smooth sole (no thick treads) and comfortable denim/leggings/jodhpurs are recommended. Helmets and sticks can be borrowed on the day.
