Why would I want my baby to sign?
From an early age a baby's understanding is significantly greater than their ability to speak. Frustration can take hold as both parents and child struggle to understand each other. This frustration can lead to tantrums causing upset to both the parents and the child....and also means that you and your baby can miss out on many months of fun interaction!

By building on a baby's ability to use their hands to express themselves and teaching simple British Sign Language signs, babies as young as a few months old are able to start expressing their wants and needs, or their excitement at going to see ducks in the park or a plane in the sky!

As we always say the word clearly at the same time as signing, you're also helping to develop your babies understanding of spoken word, and subsequent speech development as they can differentiate these single words more clearly. Signing also allows a two way interaction with your non-verbal child, so prompts more discussion and talking to your child...thus also supporting their longer term communication skills – as well as being lots of fun!

What can I expect at a TinyTalk class?

• Weekly themes such as bedtime, family or a trip to the park give you the signs you need to share baby’s world and daily routine, using British Sign Language (BSL) signs - you will learn over 150 signs at our classes
• An interactive music class featuring well-known nursery rhymes, action songs, specially composed music and instruments
• Hands-on sensory activities delight your baby and develop all-round communication skills such as vocalising, listening and taking turns. They also stimulate your baby’s senses, encourage their tracking skills and develop their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
• Time to relax with a cuppa and make new friends whilst your baby enjoys social playtime

How old does my baby need to be?

• All babies between 0 and 2 years old are welcome at the class. Babies can recognise signs from as young as 6 weeks old, so it's never too early to sign with your little one

Can I pay as you go?

• I don't usually accept PAYG payments at the class, as it's important that you come every week, in order to ensure learning. If you prefer to pay in instalments, please get in touch. If you have a holiday booked or are returning to work part way through the term, please get in touch to discuss a discount.
