RYA Inland Waterways Helmsman Course

This course is for anyone wanting to cruise the UK’s inland waterways or Europe’s extensive network of lakes, rivers and canals (a CEVNI theory course is also required in Europe), & can be converted into an ICC (International Certificate of Competence). It deals specifically with the requirements of the inland boater, whether they be a narrow boat owner or cruiser enthusiast. It assumes no prior knowledge and so is ideal for the first timer, yet the more seasoned boater will learn plenty of tricks of the trade and tips to make their boating safer and more enjoyable.
It is a hands-on course with minimal theory, and is not only an opportunity to learn new skills but it’s also a fun day out enjoying being afloat!
This is a two day course and is taken on our fully RYA spec boat. Minimum age 16. For any student under the age of 18, a responsible adult must be present and also take the course.

Once you have completed your course we would appreciate you sharing your feedback on the RYA website RYA Feedback . Many thanks!

RYA Powerboat Level 2 course

The Level 2 course is an entry level course providing all the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat. It is a hands on course with the vast majority of the day spent afloat driving the boat. There are also some small theory sections, which are designed to aid your safety awareness and independence whilst afloat. This is a two day course. No prior experience is required. All our courses are run by friendly, experienced staff and they take place at our base at Islington Boat Club. Prices include certification. 3:1 student to instructor ratio.

RYA First Aid

This one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages. In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers.
