Details

Since September 2020, the full implementation of Relationships & Health Education (RHE) has been a statutory curriculum requirement in all primary and secondary schools, with Sex Education also being compulsory in secondary phase, and 'recommended' in primary.

The importance of ongoing communication and engagement with school communities, especially parents and carers, was clear from the consultation requirements within the DfE's statutory RSHE guidance document.

Communication to school leaders from the previous Secretary of State for Education reiterated the need for schools to be clear and open with parents around their provision and teaching resources that cover RSHE requirements. The recent DfE review and consultation on updated draft guidance has also ensured even more focus upon this often contested topic.

This short bitesize webinar is designed to give delegates an understanding of the importance of engaging in a meaningful, regular and proactive way with parents and carers, especially around the often-perceived 'sensitive topics' within the PSHE curriculum.

We will look at a range of tips, strategies and opportunities to support effective engagement and consultation with parents and carers so that delegates can feel better placed to provide this to their own school community.

This session will:
• Review the statutory requirements for RSHE and the need to consult with parents/carers
• Explore opportunities and best practice in engaging with parents/carers around RSHE provision
• Consider how to manage discussions with parents around PSHE and RSHE curriculum themes

This course is suitable for primary and secondary phase PSHE/RSE/RSHE subject leads, SLT and other school team members who may be involved in engaging with parents/carers around RSHE based themes.
