On this extended day session you will enjoy kintsugi (Japanese themed creative activity), sushi workshop, Japanese lunch, meditation and gong bath. Each activity provides a moment to create and participate in individual and cultural ritual, across a variety of activities.
-Our day will begin with an opening ceremony to greet guests
-Co-host Yuko Dixon from Omotenashi Dining will explain the unique beauty of kintsugi while Shannon will lead you through a hands-on experience.
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, highlighting rather than hiding the cracks.
Its benefit is that it embraces imperfection and history, turning damage into beauty while promoting a mindset of resilience and appreciation for flaws. Each guest is encouraged to bring an item from home (plate, teacup, bowl) to use. You will be invited to write on the item something you wish to release or repair, then break the object. We will then repair the item using a resin kit, setting individual intentions. The pieces will need to dry for 24 hours so you will be given the gold paint to finish at home.
-We then move on to a sushi making workshop, lead by Yuko. She will teach you the steps to create a variety of sushi rolls. Guests are given options for ingredients upon booking (fresh salmon/chicken/vegetarian). Additional Japanese cuisine will be prepared for lunch. Guests invited to bring a dessert to share with the group. Other snacks and beverages provided throughout the day.
-Weather pending, we will enjoy lunch outside in the beautiful setting of The Roundhouse grounds. Free time given to explore and rest as needed.
-Our day ends with a ritual to clear the mind and meditation, followed by a special gong bath, designed to gently stimulate the nervous system and end in relaxation.
Please arrive to the venue at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the session to allow for time to sign consent form and situate yourself.
