Space at Central, East and South Auckland Playcentres

New groups for babies born between January - April 2020 available now

We are pleased to announce that Space Programmes will be delivered “online” during the COVID -19 lockdown. The programme will be delivered either through Zoom or a similar online platform that your facilitator will set up and invite you to join. Join a group close to your home so that when lockdown ends you can maintain connections with other parents in your local community.

Groups will meet for a minimum of 40 minutes per week online and you will be invited to be part of a private Facebook page group. ‘Space Online’ gives you a chance to connect with our trained facilitators, other parents, share music, story time and discuss the week’s topic even while we are in lock down.

If you are unable to join the online version of Space while we are in lockdown please email auckland.programmes@playcentre.org.nz

Space for you and your baby @ Central, East and South Auckland Playcentres would love to share in your parenting journey. At Space you and your baby will connect with other new parents & their babies as you explore parenting & children's development in a safe, facilitated environment. Your Space group will meet weekly, giving you & your baby the chance to make real connections during your baby's first year. You will discover ways to support & extend your baby's learning & development, including ideas & opportunities for play experiences at home. You will get to consider different parenting perspectives, perhaps find out some new information, & have some great, facilitated discussions as you discover ways that work for you & your baby.

Topics discussed may include:

  • Sleeping & crying
  • Becoming a parent
  • Establishing attachment
  • The beauty of the brain (brain development & early experiences)
  • Expressing myself (communication & language development)
  • Treasure baskets, heuristic play & exploration of play
  • Physical development (fine & big muscle co-ordination)
  • A sense of me & others (socialisation)

Space @ Central, East and South Auckland Playcentres runs for 30 weeks during school term in different Playcentres throughout the region see below for the venue options available. Families enroll at one centre that is running Space, and commit to attending that programme regularly. Babies joining a new Space session are generally between 3 weeks and 4 months of age and parents stay on session with their babies.

Due to the structure of the Space programme it is necessary to group together babies of similar ages. It may be necessary to travel to a centre that is running a Space programme appropriate for your baby's age and development
