In this three hour online programme we will look at ways to help
staff feel safe and to enable them to express themselves effectively
and not be fearful of recriminations if they make a mistake and in doing
so enhance performance at all levels.

Key workshop objectives:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of Psychological Safety in
    playing a key role in mediating personal and team performance.

  • Understand what is meant by Psychological Safety and explore
    behaviours that support or undermine it.

  • Apply a 4-stage model to determine where extra focus can help
    improve psychological safety.

  • Develop an Action Plan to help develop psychological safety within
    your team

COURSE OVERVIEW:
Have you ever held back from saying something because of perceived
repercussions? Perhaps you kept quiet because you thought it was not
your place to comment. Or you were concerned about being seen as a
busy-body, or commenting above your pay grade or qualifications?
Unfortunately, there are too many situations where people fail to speak up and in some instances the repercussions are nothing short of catastrophic. Pioneering research by Prof Amy Edmondson looking into the key differences between low and high performing teams in hospitals showed psychological safety to be one of the key considerations.
So what is this thing called ‘psychological safety’? And what can we do to
improve it?

In its simplest form people who feel safe to express themselves and are
not fearful of recriminations if they make a mistake perform better. So if
we’re interested in individual and collective performance we need to
recognise, assess and react to key components of psychological safety.

Ken Way BSc Psy
Ken is a highly experienced trainer and business coach who started his career as a research psychologist, completing projects for the UK Government’s ‘Sports Council’, amongst others, before working independently with a wide range of organisations in both the public and private sectors.

Martin J Smith PhD
Martin is a senior accredited member of the BACP, a life member of the Open University Psychological Society and a Senior Lecturer in Psychotherapy at Nottingham Trent University. He has been a trainer for over 30 years and in clinical private practice as a Psychotherapist for over 20 years
