Welcome to The Story Garden – Growing a Love of Reading
Hi, I’m Jess 👋🏼 Founder, English Teacher and Mama to three little nature babes: Blossom, Ivy & River. 🌳
The Story Garden was born from a passion project, rooted in a simple but powerful belief: children who read for pleasure thrive.
Having witnessed first-hand the clear link between consistent reading and stronger GCSE outcomes, I’ve seen how a rich exposure to vocabulary, imagination, and storytelling can transform a child’s confidence and academic success. In today’s fast-paced, tech and AI-driven world, carving out time to slow down, connect, and share stories together has never been more important.
With 2026 being recognised as the National Year of Reading, the conversation around literacy has never been more urgent. Recent statistics show a concerning decline in reading for pleasure among children, with fewer young people choosing to read in their free time. This isn’t just about books—it’s about communication, creativity, empathy, and opportunity.
That’s why The Story Garden exists.
My mission is simple: to make a meaningful difference in young lives by igniting a genuine love of reading. Through carefully curated, age-appropriate pop-up book clubs and engaging literacy workshops, children are given the space to explore stories, build confidence, and discover the joy that reading can bring.
The Story Garden offers four key experiences:
- 🌱 Little Seedlings (0 - 6m)
A gentle, calming space for our youngest listeners. Through rhythm, repetition, and shared stories, we support early communication and beautiful bonding moments between you and your baby.
- 🌿 Growing Sprouts (6m - 3y)
Lively, interactive sessions where little ones begin to join in, respond, and explore stories together—building confidence, language, and a love for books through play.
- 🌷Blooming Readers (3y - 6y)
Early primary-aged book clubs focused on building confidence, comprehension, and enjoyment.
- 🦉 Wise Owls (7y - 10y)
Workshops for older children, developing deeper thinking, discussion, and critical literacy skills.
For schools, groups, or families looking for something more tailored, bespoke workshops can be designed to suit your specific needs - please enquire directly for more information.
At The Story Garden, we’re not just reading books - we’re growing readers for life.
