Get ready to extract real DNA using everyday ingredients! In this hands-on science activity, you’ll squash, mix and reveal the hidden genetic code inside a banana. A fun and fascinating way to explore what makes us all unique — no microscope needed!
Please note: This activity involves handling bananas, dishwashing liquid, table salt, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), and ink. If your child has allergies or sensitivities to any of these, please do not take part. We also recommend wearing old clothes, as some of the materials may stain.
Delivered by Muhammad Nouman Hasan, a Biotechnology postgraduate with distinction from the University of Greenwich, a gold medalist, and a top performer in an MPhil in Molecular Pathology and Genomics.

Just a heads up, if your child needs to use the bathroom during the workshop, they'll need to go on their own, and the restroom is a bit of a walk from where the workshop will be held.
If you're picking up your child after the session, please be sure to arrive on time, as they will be released into the library immediately.
We suggest travelling by public transport as there are many buses that go to the High Street. Otherwise, there is parking nearby.
