EGLINTON - FAMILY OPEN DAY - FREE FOR FAMILIES (JUST TURN UP ANY TIME BETWEEN 10:30am AND 3:30pm) - WITH CLIMATE ACTION HUB SURVEY!

Details

Through gaining funding from the Ayrshire Climate Action Hub (https://www.energyagency.org.uk/ayrshire-climate-hub), we are delivering two FREE open days in the beautiful surroundings of Eglinton Country Park, for families to explore the woods and have fun together.

We will also be doing a survey to explore community views of how nature-connectedness affects the likelihood of engaging in pro-environmental behaviours (e.g. recycling, green travel - any action to protect the environment in some way).

Families are warmly welcomed to drop in for a visit, and can come and go as they please, go for a walk, come back, and just do what suits you on the day.

As this event is open to all, there is no requirement to book tickets in advance. All we ask is that upon your arrival, parents sign in and complete the survey. However, if you do wish to book and would like a confirmation email with event information then feel free to do so!

Look for the Woodland Wakeup signs on the map outside the cafe / visitor centre and follow the arrows to the site. You DO NOT need to turn up at 10:30 at the meeting point... we will be ready at our site from 10:30am until 3:30pm so just turn up at the site between these times... Families tend to spend 1-2 hours with us.

There will be opportunities for children to assist with making a small campfire to toast some marshmallows. To accommodate of many people as possible and spread out the numbers a bit, we will be doing the fire-building around 12pm & 2pm.

Again, just turn up any time to suit you between 10:30am and 3:30pm.

If you require any further information please call Natasha on 07932333044 for more information. Thank you! :)

We look forward to seeing you soon!

We love playing outside!

As well as being super fun, regular outdoor play and learning and spending time in the natural world has vast benefits, including:
• increasing physical, emotional and psychological resilience
• improving general physical health, strength, agility, fine/gross
motor skills and spatial/sensory awareness
• promoting better overall mental health, quality of life, self
esteem, confidence, sense of self, independence, happiness
and general wellbeing
• improving attention, focus and self-discipline
• increasing sense of place, connection to nature, awareness
and appreciation of the natural world and curiosity about its
flora and fauna
• enhancing cognitive functioning, creativity and problem solving
capabilities
• developing cooperation, teamwork, communication and
conflict resolution skills
• improving ability to independently calculate risk and gauge
own limitations
• reducing stress, anxiety and aggression

Wakeups for everyone!

Instructions

CLOTHING
All attendees should come to sessions with cosy, waterproof layers and sturdy shoes. The weather is unpredictable and we will be outside the whole time - we wouldn't want anyone's fun to be compromised by not being adequately protected from our very changeable Scottish weather!

Also, please make sure that old clothes are worn. Trying to keep fancy new clothes and shoes clean really spoils the fun!

FOOD
If you wish to bring along your snacks and a drink, please feel free to do so. The woods are the best place for a picnic! However, please minimise the use of single use plastic and take any rubbish away with you. We will make s'mores on a small fire around the times mentioned above... (around 12pm and 2pm).

TOILET
There are toilets in the park by the cafe.

WHEELCHAIRS
Woodland Wakeup aims to be as inclusive as possible. This site is suitable for wheelchair users as there are paths but the main area can be very muddy and this may affect accessibility.

If you have any questions or queries please contact Natasha on 07932333044.

We can't wait to see you in the woods!
