An Evening of Indian Tabla Music with Dhruva Smith

An evening of wonderful Indian Music. Dhruva Smith will be performing a solo Tabla Concert at the beautiful Angel Hall at Bowden House.

Dhruva has been studying tabla for over twenty-five years. He has studied with Pandit Samir Chattergee, Pandit Sanju Sahai, Pandit Kousic Sen and Usted Shahid Suleiman. He was a member of Tarang, the National South Asian Orchestra where he played both Tabla and Pakhawaj. He was also a member of the Dhol Foundation. In 2009 Dhruva and local musicians Pete Stacey, Rajesh Davies, Smudger Smith and Paul Uden formed the band Jadu. In 2011 Jadu performed at Sharq Tarunalari, the International Music Festival in Uzbekistan.

Dhruva has developed a dynamic style, which is founded on the Benares and Farukhabad gharanas, or schools, and influenced by Dhruva's innate mastery of rhythm and experience accompanying kirtan, devotional Indian folk music.
