What do I wear?
Something that's not too tight and allows you to move freely. You will get very warm in the class so try to pick something that won't make you too hot. For ladies, it's recommended that you wear a supportive sports bra. Please wear trainers that have good support and cushioning. Your trainers should allow you to turn on the ball of your foot on wooden flooring.
All new participants will be asked to complete a very short health questionnaire.
Will it be too much for me?
The great thing about this class is that we can alter the height of your step. For a less intense workout, do not add risers to the step. If you want to, you can even do the class without a step. At any point during the class you can come off the step completely and do the moves on the floor.
Will it be too easy, I like a high impact workout?
No! Make movements bigger, sink into the legs more and use risers to increase the height of your step. You will get a fantastic workout.
But I have never done step before, can I come?
Of course, it takes a few weeks to get used to the step, just go at your own pace. After a few weeks it feels great to have mastered the moves. Choreography changes less frequently in this class, to give you time to learn the routines. I use a combination of verbal and visual cues in this class to make the moves easy-to-follow.
Is there anyone that shouldn't come to the class?
No under 14s (please contact me to enquire about suitability for 14-16 year olds) and no pregnant ladies please. Also, please don't attend if you have been told by your doctor to avoid cardiovascular exercise. Any concerns please contact me.
What will I gain from coming?
Zumba® fitness classes are excellent for cardiovascular fitness and will burn loads of calories. Step has the added benefits of a more intense cardiovascular workout, more focus on legs and glutes and core strength is developed as you use your core more in this workout.
