DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE & CHILD DISABILITY PAYMENT, Part 1:
DLA/CDP main eligibility rules and the mobility component

Aims
This part of the course teaches the main eligibility rules within Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Child Disability Payment (CDP) and goes on to introduce the disability criteria within the mobility component of these benefits.

By the end of the course participants will:

• Understand the basic eligibility rules for DLA/CDP including the age rules, the residence and presence rules and the required period rules;
• Understand the different routes to claiming the mobility component;
• Be able to complete the mobility component sections of the DLA/CDP application form confidently.

DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE & CHILD DISABILITY PAYMENT, Part 2:
DLA/CDP the care component

Aims
This part of the course teaches the disability criteria for the care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and Child Disability Payment (CDP).

By the end of Part 2 participants will:
• Understand the disability criteria within the care component of DLA/CDP;
• Be able to complete the care component sections of the DLA/CDP application form confidently.
• Be able to check decisions are correct.

Methods of delivery
This course is delivered online live with a BTC trainer. It is a practical course delivered using a combination of trainer presentation, exercises and case studies, group discussion and games. Participants will be provided with e-learning supporting material including PowerPoint slides and a comprehensive training pack.

Intended audience
This course is for staff working with children under the age of 16 who are affected by a health condition or a disability. No previous experience is required although a working knowledge of the wider benefits system is helpful.

What you will need
You will need a Wi-Fi connection and a suitable device to access the internet. Prior to the event, BTC will email you a link which you should use to join the event.

Certificates & post course support
Named participants completing the whole course (Parts 1 & 2) will receive an e-certificate and regular benefits news updates and guarantees access our free 12 months post-course advice service.

Instructions

In the week before the course, you will receive an email with Zoom link(s) to the course and a Dropbox link to access the pack/slides which are in pdf format. You will need to download (or print) the pack (and slides, if you wish) before each part of the course.

You will need a good wifi connection and a suitable computer/laptop to access both the Zoom session and the pack throughout. You may wish to use a separate device for the pack (or split your screen) if you cannot or do not wish to print.

We recommend participants log in a few minutes beforehand. You may also wish to have a pen and paper handy to make notes.
