Insomnia and anxiety often seem to be partners in crime, and they can have a detrimental impact on our emotional wellbeing.
Join Kate for an afternoon of yoga, breath work, relaxation, chat, cake and tea to explore the ways in which yoga can help support us and boost our emotional wellbeing.
One of the key ways in which yoga works is by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) - our rest and digest, tend and befriend half of the autonomic nervous system. During menopause the change in hormone levels can lead to a predominance of the fight, flight and freeze sympathetic nervous system. Tapping into our physiology gives the PNS a chance to balance everything out again, hopefully improving sleep and reducing levels of anxiety. The techniques learnt can often be used in daily life to help us to cope with challenging situations, enabling us to respond mindfully, rather than reacting.
The afternoon will include plenty of opportunities for sharing thoughts and ideas, with the added benefit that a group of women joining together has been proved to increase the production of oxytocin - our cuddle hormone - which starts to help us feel more at ease and comfortable.
The afternoon is for women in any stage of menopause or midlife.

Kate has trained in Menopause Yoga with Petra Coveney, Yoga for Menopause with Francoise Freedman, Restorative Yoga with Judith Hansen Lasater, as well as many other courses. She has also struggled with insomnia and anxiety, and feels strongly that women deserve more support and help during menopause, and that no woman should feel that she is going mad or is alone during this transformative time.
