The drop in water levels at Derwent Reservoir, that we’ve seen this summer, has resulted in large areas of dangerous soft ground and loose boulders being exposed at the base of the dam wall, making the banks unsafe for fishing.
Your safety is always our primary concern and we are sorry to inform you that, for your safety, we have taken the decision to close further sections for fishing until further notice.
At Derwent reservoir:
The dam wall at Derwent reservoir is now closed for fishing along with some sections of the north shore.
The south shore is closed and, on the north shore, the section above the sailing club and below Millshields towards Cronkley and the Meadow is also closed.
The hard ground at Millshields is still open to anglers, along with the bank from the Valve Tower up to the Meadow. Please observe our no fishing beyond this point signs.
However, we are pleased to confirm that our other reservoirs remain open for fishing:
Kielder Water – Full access
Hury Reservoir – Full access
Grassholme Reservoir – South shore and west end – the dam wall and north shore remain closed for maintenance.
Fontburn – North and South shore open, no fishing from the dam wall.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the restrictions at Derwent and look forward to welcoming you at our other reservoirs for some great late season sport.
The site remains open for day visitors and we look forward to seeing you soon, during this time we would ask you to remain on the designated multiuser tracks and to keep away from the shoreline.
In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation and, if the situation changes then we will re-open the closed areas.
