The 20th century theologian Karl Rahner famously said “The Christian of the future will be a mystic or will not exist.” But what could he have meant by this? What is mysticism, and what does it have to do with ordinary people leading ordinary lives?
This retreat is for anyone who wants a deeper spirituality, and who suspects that the great mystics, visionaries, and contemplatives of the Christian tradition have something to share with us. Drawing on the wisdom of great mystics like Julian of Norwich, St. Teresa of Ávila and Evelyn Underhill, we'll bring mysticism down to earth and consider how the contemplative life is for everyone — not just saints or nuns and monks. We’ll reflect on what mysticism is, why it matters, and how we can draw on the wisdom of the mystics to find a deeper and more meaningful spiritual life, right here and right now.

Rooms in the beautiful St. Francis Retreat Center include a bed, desk, reading chair, and private bath. Bed linens, towels, and soap are provided. Three vegetarian meals a day are included. Married couples or those traveling together can be accommodated in connecting rooms.
Due to the expenses incurred hosting directed retreats, the $450 must be paid at the time of booking. Cancellations made before July 10, 2024 may receive a full refund. After July 10, $350 will be refunded.
Please keep in mind that the gate closes at 6 pm
Check-in is from 2-4 pm Eastern Time on Monday, and check-out is by no later than 9 am ET Friday to allow time for the rooms to be cleaned.
Please note that shorts and tank tops are not permitted in the church and dining area, but they are perfectly fine in all other places.
If you must cancel, please let us know as soon as possible by either canceling your reservation online or by emailing us. Guests who are "no-shows" and do not inform us of their cancellation may be restricted from registering in the future.
